Sorry it's a day late but I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday if you live in the US or a nice Thursday if you don't. You didn't think I forgot about The Ugly did you?
There isn't much that I can say that is nice about this dress. I'm not a hater but what is redeeming about this Ugly frock? I'm not a fan of the handkerchief hemline and never have been and I don't enjoy the rosettes on the front of the bodice. I don't like the look of the shoes, they seem comfy but not necessarily sexy. I hope Cheryl redeems herself next time.
Julie Bowen's dress doesn't horribly offend me, if I saw it on a soccer mom at a holiday party I wouldn't think twice. I just don't think this look works for the red carpet, now matter how casual the event. Yes, I know it's sequined but the stripes make it more sporty and the high pony only adds to that effect. The Loubies are sexy but I personally would have gone for navy or metallic to bring out those shades in the dress.
If you're anything like me you're wondering who the f*@! this person is. Well, it's Kimberly Perry from the country group Band Perry. Yeah, that doesn't clear things up for me either. I never listen to the radio and certainly not country, Sorry! Either way I have to say I'm not a fan of this dress. If I didn't like it on my darling Emma Stone I'm not going to enjoy it on anyone. The hair doesn't work, neither does the bag but I love, love, love the gold and black shoes. I'd wear those with a cuter dress. Next!
I know, I know, Nicki's going for a look I just don't like it. The top of the dress is fine, not great but okay, it's the bottom that I don't like. I don't like the pickups as they are called or the shade of green that was chosen, especially not with pastel pink hair. Plus, if she's wearing a wig (which she always does) why the hell is it not perfection? Again, I love the heels in this one and I adore the eye makeup but perhaps it would be better paired with either a nude lip or a natural haircolor, not bright pink both.
Are we in agreement? Let me know in the comments!

American Music Awards 2011: The Bad
Now onto the bad looks. You all know it gets better as we go down the list. Good is fun, bad is better and ugly surely is the best! What's the difference between bad and ugly you might be asking yourself? It's simple. If the looks was well thought out, cute and otherwise nice it could become bad if one little thing is too off to ignore such as a bad color, fit or if it's unflattering to the person wearing it. Ugly is beyond that, the outfit has no redeeming qualities and would be better on the atelier floor.
Audrina Patridge, come on down. You're the first contestant on DOC's AMA 2011 Bad List. This is a classic example of a bad. The dress is cute, the shoes work, hair is pretty but if you're seeing what I'm seeing all I can focus on is the reverse racoon eye makeup. Hello! Concealer around the eyes, you can see it even in the full length picture. Not good. At least it's not powdered to hell on top of that. Many makeup artists say to use a concealer 1-2 shades lighter than your skintone under the eyes to "cancel out" the shadows. DON'T. Or you'll look like this. Use one that is your shade or slightly lighter but not this much of a contrast. In fact, I usually sweep my bronzer close enough to the eye that I don't get this look period. I hope she learned her lesson.
Many of you may call Jennifer Lopez's dress ugly but I'd like to stop you right there. While it's certainly not my taste you have to admit that the girl has the body to pull it off. I just love her figure and since i know she works hard to keep it that way I think she should show it off. It's not nearly as daring as her 2000 Grammy Awards Versace dress which will forever live in infamy. She redeemed herself by keeping her makeup, hair, shoes and accessories simple, classic and clean. I can't wait to see what she'll wear next.
Katy Perry always looks quirky and I just have to get used to that though I may never be able to do it. I adore her figure as well and this dress makes the most of it but it's just too cutesy and ironic for my taste. I'm not sure I can get on board with the pink-purple hair either and I really wish you didn't see light brown roots in this picture. I do have to say that I'm kinda in love with the hair accessory she's wearing but of course I wouldn't wear it myself. The cats eye makeup and tomato red lip are glamourous and I think it would look better with her natural haircolor, possibly some colorful streaks but not the full on look. I also adore the pop of blue of her shoes.
Lastly, Mary J. Blige. I love the pattern and material of this dress but I don't think it's particularly flattering to have the bigger spots on the hip area, it makes it look like the fabric had to stretch to fit over her hips. Obviously that makes them look bigger than they are. In general I'm also not a fan of one shoulder/long sleeve hybrid dresses. I believe a one shoulder dress should be sleeveless on the arm. I don't like Mary J. with blonde hair, I don't find it flattering with her skintone and I'm hugely unimpressed with her annoying arm band tattoo.
What about you? Are we in agreement or would you like to save someone from the bad list?

American Music Awards 2011: The Good
Hey guys! I promise I'm not dead. I've got a few minutes and since I couldn't keep myself away from American Music Awards photos I thought I'd share the fashion and beauty with you today. Tomorrow look forward to Mr. Dudesday's post on the topic and then check back Wednesday and Thursday for The Bad and The Ugly. I'll be focusing a lot on the makeup and hair in these photos.
The obvious winner of the night to me in the fashion department is Vanessa Minnillo, Mrs. Nick Lachey. She looks amazing in this white dress and I'm totally digging her darker hair. I think this is the best I've ever seen her look. Her legs look insane and the cool neckline accentuates her beautiful face.
Another great look is Hilary Scott from Lady Antebellum. The dress is flattering on her curvy figure and her hair looks great down on her shoulders. It's whimsical and cute without being ironic ala Katy Perry. Her makeup is pretty and sweet to complement her dress.
This next one is a little of both good and bad. I just adore Heidi's dress, white with a metallic silver "lacy" overlay. I think it is gorgeous without being over the top or too dressy for the event. However, I'm not a huge fan of her hair in these shots. Don't get me wrong, I love the texture but I think I'd like it more if it was tucked behind the ears, at least on one side.
I feel the same way about Jennifer Hudson that I do about Heidi. While I freakin' love her metallic dress I have to say that I'm not a fan of her hair and makeup and I miss her curves. It's great that Jennifer got in better shape, I would never criticize her for that but I think she went a little too far. Her face looks gaunt. I don't particularly like her bright pink lipstick or her oddly highlighted and straightened hair.
Another Jennifer worth mention is Jennifer Morrison. She's the reverse of JHud, I really love her hair and fresh makeup but I'm not sure how I feel about the dress. It's pretty, I love the retro 70s style peasant dress. I think that it looks very comfortable and I like the color and adornment but I don't think I'm completely sold on the hemline. What do you ladies think?
I'm just going to come right out and say it, I much prefer Taylor Swift's hair straight. Her wave pattern is odd to say the least and her hair always looks poufy and fake like a wig. I think she needs to use a more natural texture and avoid the curling iron. This look makes her look a lot more sophisticated and more age appropriate. I can't get over how much she looks like Nicole Kidman here. I absolutely love her earrings and her simple makeup.
Yet another Jenny, Jenny McCarthy looks FABULOUS in this gorgeous purple retro inspired dress and beauty. I love the color, period, and I think it looks amazing on her creamy skin. Her retro wave hairstyle is gorgeous and the makeup only complements the look. I can safely say she's never looked this amazing. I love the dark lip, I wish I had the balls to do that myself.
Selena Gomez has been continuing to look great on the red carpet. I think she has figured out what works for her and keeps reaching for it over and over. She's been seen many times in pale colors, showing a little bit of leg via a slit and a slinky material. I love the fringe detail on the hemline of the dress and her soft apricot lipgloss. Her hair is gorgeous and glossy and the waves are a perfect look to go with the dress.
What do you think? Anything you disagree with? Let me know in the comments!

SAG Awards: The Ugly
Now, we're on to everyone's favorite part of the award show season, seeing some of the horrendous outfits stars choose to wear. There are some *ahem Helena Bonham Carter* who always look wacky, they don't even make my list, you can just imagine what she'd be wearing.
I only had five ladies who made the cut at the Screen Actor's Guild Awards 2011, all of them complete surprises for me.
First up, the biggest disappointment of the night, Christina Hendricks. The girl has a body, that cannot be denied, so why hide it in what can only be described as Hugh Hefner Couture. It looks like a fancy robe and as a woman with curves I know how flattering a thick robe can be, it's impossible to look lithe in that. Her fiery locks and smoky eyes really looked gorgeous though so fire the stylist and hire the hair and makeup team, they're keepers.

After seeing pics of the SAG pre-party I was really hoping for something great out of Glee's Jenna Ushkowitz. I mean, the black lace dress she wore was fabulous, however her actual SAG dress was no where near the perfection confection of earlier. Her actual event dress reminded me of crepe paper or those horrible toilet paper wedding dresses made at bridal showers, not to mention the totally unflattering nude color. I couldn't get on board.

Next, but certainly not best, Julie Bowen. I think there's a certain type of woman who can pull of a jumpsuit, namely fashion modles with no visible curves. I'm not saying Ms. Bowen is the curviest girl but a one piece getup can only be as narrow as the widest part of your body, whether it's your athletic waist or your big ol' badonkadonk. A 70s flair bottom only adds to the strangeness. Pass, please.

In the awful, yet not terrible category is the lovely Rosario Dawson. First, I have to say I adored her earrings, easily something I can see myself running out to buy big emerald drops, gorgeous. However, her butter yellow dress and awkwardly placed ruffle-covered slit just didn't do it for me. I'm surprised. Rosario has never been one of my favorites but I expected so much more from her. Loving the retro hair though.

Last, and in this case definitely least, is Kate Mara. I love her beautiful auburn hair and her fabulously adorable features but I do not support her choice in award show attire. I almost couldn't get past her horrible twisted headband long enough to notice the atrocity that was her nude, ruffled, corseted, all over the place dress. I mean, that headband looks like something one would wear to wash their face at the end of the night, not wear on a red carpet and the dress has so much going on it could win a SAG award for it's broad range of styles. Next time I want to see her in something simple, a gorgeous jewel tone, an interesting neckline but otherwise simple and elegant.

SAG Awards: The Bad
We all watch the awards shows for the beauty and fashion but I can't be alone in enjoying the bad just as much, if not more than, the good. Here's a selection of some of my lesser favorites of the night, these aren't even the worst of it. Tomorrow I will highlight the atrocities that made the Ugly List.

First of all, in all the glamourous long dresses a star could pick Amy Poehler and Dianna Agron went for shorter dresses. Amy was in a knee length black dress completely wrong for her figure, only adding to the list of things wrong with her choice. Plus, not to rag on the girl or nothin' but I am not digging her baby blonde hair. I'd rather see her with a more natural hue, especially for a funny girl, she doesn't need to look like a bombshell. Dianna's tea length Chanel, however pretty just doesn't work for me. I applaud her for the fashion bravery but I think it was a misstep. Her makeup was surprisingly less than thrilling as well. For a girl with such gorgeous features I feel she was wearing way too much eye makeup.

Another huge no-no in my book is looking like you belong at prom, especially for ladies in their 30s, 40s and beyond. This year Jane Lynch and Winona Ryder stick out to me as two such actresses who forgot that their prom days were long behind them and Winona's purse certainly does not help remove the prom connotation from my mind nor her deer caught in the headlights look. She looks terrified that Jimmy Smith is going to try and get to second base after the dance.

Jayma Mays, no matter how cute, is doing herself absolutely no justice in the shapeless and unappealing peach dress she picked for the event. I would like to see her in a jewel tone to really show off her beautiful hair. I did, however, adore her matching peach lips.

Natalie, Natalie, Natalie. What am I going to do with you? I know I've been complaining about her loose tent like maternity dresses but this one, not a big step up. It hugs her bump in all the right places and just looks weirdly uncomfortable. Please pick something that hugs the whole bump not just the expanse of flesh across the center. Her hair, no, that didn't make me happy either.

Then of course, as usual, we have the lacy ladies who I feel did it all wrong. Nicole Kidman's black lace looks more appropriate for a funeral and it was ill-fitting on top of that. Her normally gorgeous strawberry blonde looks just looked blah (of course it's hard to blame her with a new baby at home). I really give it to Tina Fey for going with such an uncharacteristically bold shade of red on the red carpet but I can't get past the little tuft of lace at the top of the dress, it reminds me of pineapples for some reason. Her hair and makeup were sublime, as usual, though. Also in the lace category, though I'm not sure if it's actually lace or just a design on the fabric, is January Jones. I thought she looked amazing at the People's Choice Awards and I love how this look is the complete opposite of that look but I can't get on board. She's got a gorgeous figure and while the shape of the dress accentuates the hourglass I feel it's too covered up. Plus, am I the only one who hated this floppy hairstyle? My hair seriously looks like that when I wake up in the morning, minus the perfect blonde hue and sleek, glossy finish of course.

The last on my list isn't a bad dress choice per se but I think the black velvet belt completely ruined it. Maybe a matching belt or even a thinner black one tied in the back, just something different. I love the neckline and the color on Jennifer I just don't think the belt works, it breaks her up in a bad place for her athletically shaped figure.

SAG Awards: The Good
So many award shows, so little time. I couldn't really care less about the awards themselves but the beauty and fashion draw me in every time. The SAG awards are lumped in the middle of the season but provide the stars with an opportunity to see and be seen. I'm truly stunned by some of the looks from last nights show. First and foremost I'm in love with all the different looks we've seen. So take a peek at the rainbow hues seen on the red carpet.

White reigned supreme in my eyes with Amy Adams and Lea Michele two of the best looks of the night. Amy's second skin Herve Leroux highlighted her post-baby figure, offset by her gorgeous strawberry blonde hair pulled into a chic pony. I loved Lea's shimmering Oscar de la Renta and simple makeup. She's not a traditional beauty but I love her ombre highlights, shorter cut and hello! can you say sexy cleavage? It's a very grown up look for a star of a TV show aimed at teens. Also wearing white was the Office's Mindy Kaling and her Grecian Tadashi Shoji dress with metallic belt really makes the most of her beautiful curves. How amazing does the color look with her dark skin?

I know many people will disagree with me but I loved Angie Harmon's pink feathered Monique Lhuillier confection. Yes, it's not exactly age appropriate but it was fun and she truly loved the gown, you could just tell. If you can't have fun with your look you're living a boring life. Also clad in pink was Glee's Heather Morris in Romona Keveza. The strapless cut paired with her blue eyes and blonde hair made her look like the quintessential California girl.

Julianna Margulies, Mila Kunis and Sarah Hyland rocked fiery hues to compete with the red carpet. Julianna's scarlet YSL strapless was simple and sophisticated and looked comfortable to wear. Mila's Alexander McQueen offset her beautiful coffee colored hair and delicate collarbone. I loved seeing her take the fashion risk. Modern Family's Sarah Hyland rocked a strapless orange Max Mara Elegante dress, the simple cut and bright color making it entirely age appropriate. The apricot blush looks fabulous on her skintone and I can only hope we can look forward to that gorgeous shade this summer.

Rocking always wearable shades of blue were three of my other favorites of the night Claire Danes in floral Louis Vuitton, Sofia Vergara in cobalt Roberto Cavalli and Julia Stiles in ombre Monique Lhuillier. All of these ladies looked amazing however, I can't say I would have chosen that belt if I were Claire Danes but she more than makes up for it with that fab bright pink lip. I can't wait to wear that color come spring (not that I'm a stickler for the rules, day is night, spring is winter, whatever goes for me). Jenna Fischer's baby blue Fendi looked glorious with her sporty chic pony, long sideswept layers framing her gorgeous face. I love the style and color of her hair.

My favorite color was severely under-appreciated on the red carpet, where's all the purple at? Kim Kardashian (sans her usual hair extensions and fake lashes) rocked a gorgeous purple Marchesa at the award show. I've heard a lot of chatter about the look not flattering her figure but I think she looks amazing and it's nice to see her in something a little less fitted. Louise Roe wore a gorgeous floral Tadashi Shoji, the pattern making her standout in a sea of single color frocks. And, last but not least, Susan Sarandon looked gorgeous and age appropriate off the shoulder eggplant Nicole Miller. This is how a middle aged woman "should" look and if you're going to play by the rules this is the way to do it. Lucky for me, I can appreciate the rule followers as well as the rule breakers.
What looks rocked your world on the red carpet? If you were to wear any of these dresses which would you pick? If I had the figure of any of these women I'd wear Lea's Oscar de la Renta, show off the cleavage and shine on the red carpet.

American Music Awards: The Good
I'm kinda upset that I didn't know the American Music Awards were even on until I saw the press coverage on Monday, I used to live for these things. As a kid I'd beg my parents to let me stay up late so I could watch. One year my bestie and I even "dressed up" to go to the Grammys (the same year JLO wore the infamous Versace dress), and of course, by dressing up I mean wearing long skirts as strapless dresses, my NYE tiara and winter scarf as fabulous accessories.
The most important part of any awards show, now and when I was 10, was the hair, makeup and dresses. This year, honestly, there wasn't much to be excited about. Does anyone else feel the same way? Here's what I loved...

Katy Perry-Katy Perry is a gorgeous girl and sometimes that gets lost in her over the top looks. Not this time. She looks 100% flawless. I love her soft waves, shimmery eyes, lips and cheeks. This is a look you could actually copy and wear on the street and not look like a circus freak. Applause to Mrs. Katy Brand. Beautiful!
Jessica Alba- Jessica's one of those girls I only find attractive sometimes. I loved her look when she did Honey and I love her look at the AMAs. The smoky eye really brings out her dark eye color and I love the slicked back, sophisticated hair with such a dramatic neckline. Gorgeous. Wouldn't change a thing.
Pink- I'm sure people are going to disagree with me here but I love Pink's silver/lavender hair. It's original (even though yes, it's been done already) and it really is an improvement over the bleached and pink. I like that she keeps evolving and her makeup is softer and more sophisticated now. PS: On a personal life note, how cute is it that she and Cary got back together? That takes balls after such a public breakup.
Taylor Swift- Words cannot express how glad I am to see her putting the curls away for the night. I'm a huge fan of curls (and personally have them myself and never, ever straighten them) however, her curling iron, too fake for their own good curls had to go. I love her hair straight, love the color, the bangs. A lot of people have said that it made her eyes look tiny but girls got tiny eyes to begin with. And can we talk about that dress? Huge departure from her normal baby doll look and I have to say I'm totally digging the whole look on her.
Christina Aguilera's Performance look- What a cool and fun eyeliner look. I'd never wear it because I'm not performing anywhere but it's fun. Pair that with a vinyl red lip and it's a perfect look at me! look. However, I must say I'd prefer to see Xtina look more like Taylor Swift does in the picture below, simple makeup, straight blonde hair and bangs. At first I thought this pic was Christina from a distance. How pretty would she look if she went back to this type of style?

PS- Does anyone else find it weird that Usher, Christina Aguilera, Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block all performed? I felt like I was back in the 90s instead of 2010.
